Supreme Court rulings limit rights of victims of discrimination

Back in December in this Greenbelt Employment Law Blog, we discussed a very important case that the U.S. Supreme Court decided to review. The case centered on the question of who can be labeled as a supervisor in discrimination and harassment lawsuits. The question is a very important one because whether or not the harasser was a supervisor may determine if an employer is liable for the unlawful actions.

Many young adults in Maryland, as well as older adults who are looking for a career change, take advantage of internship opportunities in the summer months. Internships are a great way for inexperienced workers to get their feet wet and learn about a particular industry or type of work. However, interns may need to be careful to ensure that their employment rights are protected.

Maryland restaurant owner sued for sexually harassing employees

Recent news reports have suggested that there has been an uptick in teenagers suffering from sexual harassment on the job. Some say that teenagers often fall victim to sexual harassment, in part, because they are less likely to be aware of their employment rights than adults, and they also may not know how to report harassment. The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission filed a lawsuit Wednesday against a restaurant company here in Maryland for reportedly harassing a number of female employees, some of them teenagers.
