Lawsuit: Wet Seal wants blond, white managers in Maryland stores

After an executive of clothing retailer Wet Seal visited several stores in Maryland and Philadelphia in 2009, the executive emailed subordinates that the stores lacked diversity. Specifically, the email stated the stores had too many black employees.

Vt. joins Maryland, bans employers from pulling credit reports

At the start of this month, Vermont became the eighth state to stop employers from pulling credit reports of job applicants as part of the hiring process. Vermont's new employment law specifically prohibits employers from inquiring into the credit histories and credit reports of job applicants and employees, and it also bans discriminating against employees or applicants based on credit information.

In Maryland, how do paternity leave rights stack up?

Under the federal Family and Medical Leave Act, new parents are allowed to take up to 12 weeks of paid leave following the birth of a child. However, companies with less than 50 employees are not required to offer maternity or paternity leave, and no companies are required to pay employees for these leaves of absence.
