As a practicing attorney for three decades, there is much that I have learned about attorney/client relations. An attorney who works well with her clients can achieve much success for the client. I measure my success by the results I achieve and the satisfaction our clients have with my representation. When a matter is referred to me for handling by a client, I put the client first and strive to meet or exceed the client’s expectation with the outcome.
I want our clients to know that I think of all the possibilities for an outcome when I am asked to help resolve a dispute. I try to provide my clients with all options available to address a particular situation so that the client can make an informed decision regarding how to proceed to address a problem. I am candid in expressing both the weaknesses and the strengths of the client’s position. When I provide options for my clients, and they make a decision, all of my actions from the time the decision is made will support the client’s choice. I am very conscious of the costs of legal representation and communicate regularly with clients regarding the work that must be performed and the approximate costs. I want to make certain that our clients not only know their options but the costs to implement the options as well. I try to bring humanity and fairness to the process of resolving disputes.
Best of all, I have now experienced so much as an attorney that it is unlikely that I have not had prior experience in dealing with a conflict. I can remain calm even though our client may be highly agitated. I can find humor in just about any situation and put a problem in the proper perspective. And, I live by the motto that it costs nothing to be nice!!! It has indeed served me well in dealing with clients, opposing counsel, judges and just about everyone I meet.
